1. What inspired you to pursue a career in visual storytelling?

My journey into visual storytelling was born from a blend of my experiences and passions. As a retired Navy SEAL, I’ve seen the world from unique perspectives—whether it was the rugged terrains of Afghanistan or the serene depths of the ocean. These experiences, combined with my love for technology and creativity, led me to explore visual storytelling. Using RED camera systems and editing on DaVinci Resolve allows me to capture and convey the emotions and stories I’ve witnessed. Scoring my own projects adds a personal touch, ensuring that every piece of work is a true reflection of my vision and experiences.

2. How do your military experiences influence your creative work?

My military background has profoundly shaped my approach to storytelling. The discipline, attention to detail, and ability to perform under pressure are skills I bring to every project. My experiences in lead climbing, SCUBA, and Drager diving have provided me with unique opportunities to capture footage from extraordinary vantage points. Additionally, my time in Afghanistan and surviving cancer have taught me resilience and the importance of capturing moments that tell a deeper story. Every project I undertake is influenced by these life experiences, adding a layer of authenticity and depth to my work.

3. What do you enjoy most about working with RED camera systems and DaVinci Resolve?

Working with RED camera systems and DaVinci Resolve is incredibly fulfilling. The RED cameras provide unparalleled image quality and flexibility, allowing me to capture stunning visuals in diverse environments. DaVinci Resolve offers powerful editing and color grading tools that help bring my creative vision to life. The ability to score my own projects means I can infuse each piece with a unique emotional tone, ensuring that the final product resonates with viewers.
